Exam Proctoring
When you purchase the exam, you will choose between in-person or virtual proctoring.
In-Person Proctoring: You will schedule your exam date/time with a proctor on our approved list: Approved Proctors by State (updated 02-06-2026). In-person proctors are designated by the Director of Weights and Measures of each state.
Virtual Proctoring: If you choose "virtual" proctoring, there is no need to preschedule. This service is complimentary for NCWM Members taking the Basic Competency Exams or Professional Certification Exams. Join here!

- No one else in the room.
- Clean desktop. This means no hard copies of the reference materials.
- Government-issued photo ID.
- Webcam.
- Only one display. Only one computer.
- No cell phones.
- When you launch ProctorFree and the exam, you will see instructions for viewing the PDF versions of the Reference Materials. You will be allowed to open these approved Reference Materials on the same screen/computer. By choosing the virtual proctor, you MUST use the electronic versions of the Reference Materials, no hard copies are allowed.

To take a test:
- Click

- Login to NCWM.com.
- Click the down arrow next to your name in the upper right corner of the screen.
- Select "Dashboard."
- Select "My Tests" from the menu on the left.
- Select "Access Exams" and follow the instructions there.
